The Lore Behind "Zero Degrees"
The lead single from UTurn’s Third Album Era
This is my latest article of my weekly series on Substack, “The Lore Behind…” This week’s article is UTurn’s first single from the Third Album Era, Zero Degrees. This article will show both the real life lore and the canonical lore. This was originally a still on Instagram, so now we’re starting to catch up!
And yes! We’re finally on UTurn’s current PRESSZERO! Still, make sure you follow me on Instagram and TikTok for all things UTurn and The One Series.
For some context, there are three One Series eras based on drafts. The Original Draft Era, which spans from 2011 to 2014. The Second Draft Era spans from 2017 to 2023. And the Final Version Era, originally called the Amazon Era, starting in 2020 and onward. This version is the published version.
Real Life Lore
(Original draft and title from 2012. Second draft with anniversary cover and current title from 2021. Final version from 2023.)
Zero Degrees was written back in 2012 during the Original Draft Era of The One Series. It was originally inspired by a b-side track of the Russian pop song that's translated into Birds of Happiness. Now, I don't know what the original lyrics said, but the dark Europop song was perfect for the dark lyrics of Zero Degrees.
(Yes, this group has been a major influence and inspiration for UTurn’s sound. They kind of sound like t.A.T.u. in their music.)
Zero Degrees was released with my voice onto all streaming platforms. Since the original Instagram version of this article back in May, this song has been removed. Any future releases I do as the singer Stacie Evans will be music outside of The One Series. You can still stream the original demo on SoundCloud, though there was a time when the original demo was still on Spotify.
(2021 SoundCloud demo cover and the 2023 streaming platform version. Yes, that’s my face.)
The One Series Lore
In Dangerous Scandals, UTurn releases Zero Degrees as the title single from their third album, PRESSZERO. It was written by Alyson, Andrew, Amanda, and Derrick.
It peaked in the top 10 and five charts worldwide. It’s about a relationship that has grown cold, and it’s time to get out of it.
